The Rolex Sky-Dweller is considered distinctive because of the eccentric number disc on the dial. This number disc has the function of indicating a second time zone. A rotating bovine comand bezel is used to set the second time zone function. This is unique to Rolex.
Another distinctive feature of the Sky-Dweller is the fluted Rolex bezel. The origin of the fluting is not the design but the technology. It was used to screw the bezel to the middle part of the case. This was to ensure water resistance. The fluting was identical to that of the case back.
Today, the fluting is purely aesthetic and has become a trademark.
This watch has a mechanical perpetual movement with a self-winding mechanism, a second time zone and an annual calendar. The accuracy of the movement is -2/+2 seconds per day.
