One of the oldest Scotish Distilleries: The Bladnoch distillery stands steadfast in the lush fields of Wigtownshire. Positioned as the southernmost distillery in Scotland, Bladnoch draws its water from the River Bladnoch, its namesake, which originates at Loch Maberry in Kirkcowan. Founded in 1817 by brothers John and Thomas McClelland, the distillery obtained its license in 1825. Situated on a farm, Bladnoch utilized the abundant barley from the nearby fields. The structures underwent renovation during the latter part of the 19th century, but distillation ceased entirely in 1905.

Ownership Change: The ownership of the distillery changed hands multiple times, first to the Irish Dunville and Co, then to A B Grant, who recommenced distillation. Fortunes were favorable for a period, leading to the expansion of stills from two to four a decade after the reopening. During the 1980s, Bladnoch was owned by Guinness and later United Distillers, ultimately closing its doors officially in June 1993.

In 2003, Diageo sold the distillery to Raymond Armstrong. Originally purchased as a vacation home, it was strictly intended for this purpose. However, due to petitions from both Raymond Armstrong and the local community, Diageo permitted the resumption of production, capped at 100,000 liters per year.

Numerous independent bottlings have surfaced over the years from companies like Gordon and MacPhail and Douglas Laing. Following the revival of production at the start of the 21st century, the initial official post-Armstrong releases emerged in 2008. These included three six-year-old expressions: one matured in bourbon casks, another in sherry casks, and a lightly peated variant. All of these releases were well-received.
