Whisky must be matured in a cask for at least three years before it can officially be called "whisky". Three years is not always the final figure, there are many whiskeys that are aged for 10, 12 or even 20 years before being bottled. 
 
Since whisky does not continue to mature after bottling, it is crucial to let it mature in the cask until the desired age is reached. 
 
For distilleries, this means that a lot of capital is tied up in whisky casks that sit around unused for years before the contents are bottled and sold. The tied-up capital could otherwise be used by the distillery for investments in research and development activities, facilities or marketing. 
 
Due to high demand, whisky is being bottled younger and younger. This means that we are already in possession of a scarce commodity. The scarcer the commodity, the higher the earnings potential. We are committed to providing the highest standards of storage, maintenance and insurance of your equipment on your behalf. The associated costs will be shared between the splint holders and included as an ongoing cost in relation to each asset. Exit fee 
When you sell an investment, you will be charged a flat fee of 2% of the transaction volume. This includes our expenses for sales on the secondary market, our costs for maintaining this market and our organisation of an asset sale at the end of the contract.

The Glenrothes is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky distillery located in the town of Rothes in the heart of the Speyside region of Scotland. It is situated next to the Burn of Rothes, at the edge of the town. The whisky from the distillery is renowned for its quality, structure and flavour, due to the 140+ years of whisky-making tradition that has been passed down. In 2018, the 25 Year Old whisky from the distillery was awarded the Chairman's Trophy for Best Speyside Single Malt at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge. 
 
Glenrothes have stopped releasing casks on the secondary market in 2018 - we've not seen younger casks than this. 
 
The Glenrothes distillery is a testament to passion and perseverance, split through the middle by the Burn of Rothes. On one side, the stillhouse takes the milled malt and pure spring water and turns it into the foundation of their whisky. On the other side, the warehouses store the casks where the whisky matures and develops its unique flavor.

The price of € 32,750 includes the Splint Invest platform fee and external maintenance costs of €2,700. € 30,050 can be allocated to the cask.
