The Story Behind Splint Invest: 

From Whisky Casks to Democratizing Luxury Investments

At Splint Invest, our journey began in an unexpected place: amidst the aroma of aging whisky casks and the passion for smart investments. It’s a story of friendship, shared interests, and the pursuit of making high-value investments accessible to everyone.

The Beginning: A Shared Passion for Investments 

In 2019, three of us—Mario, Aurelio, and Robin—were deep into our work at PwC, focusing on the automation and standardization of audit services in the Banking and Asset Management sectors. It was challenging, rewarding work, but something was missing—a spark of innovation, a project we could truly call our own. 

That spark arrived in June 2020 when Kris joined our team, moving all the way from Dublin to Bern. It didn’t take long to discover that Kris shared our passion for investments. During one of our many discussions, Kris introduced us to the world of whisky cask investments, a well-known yet niche opportunity in the UK and Ireland. Intrigued, we dove into research and quickly realized the potential. However, the high minimum investment of 40,000 EUR was a significant barrier. 

The Drive for Diversification 

As investors, we’ve always believed in the importance of diversification. It’s not just about spreading risk, but about exploring new opportunities and tapping into markets that are often overlooked. This was a key motivator for us when we decided to invest in whisky casks. The idea of adding a unique, tangible asset like whisky to our portfolios was both exciting and strategically sound. 

Determined not to miss out, we decided to pool our resources and invest collectively. This wasn’t just a financial decision; it was the birth of a community. As we shared our experiences and newfound knowledge with family, friends, and colleagues, we found many others who were eager to join us. The idea of investing in something tangible, like whisky casks, resonated with them. 

Before we knew it, we had built a community of around 30 passionate investors. It was exciting to see our circle grow, but it didn’t stop there. The group started exploring other investment opportunities, and soon, the conversations expanded beyond whisky to include wine and watches. 

The Birth of Splint Invest 

This growing interest in alternative investments made us realize something important: there was a significant demand for accessible, democratized investment opportunities in luxury items and collectibles. The concept of Splint Invest began to take shape. 

We envisioned a platform where people could invest in high-value assets without the need for large sums of money. We wanted to create a space where investments in whisky, wine, watches, and beyond were no longer exclusive to the wealthy but open to anyone with a passion for unique assets.

Building the Platform: Diversification at Its Core 

With this vision in mind, we started building Splint Invest—a user-friendly investment app that makes it easy for anyone to invest in a wide range of luxury items. The principle of diversification, which initially drove us to whisky casks, continued to guide us as we expanded our offerings. We recognized that the value of an investment platform lies in the variety of options it provides. 

Today, our platform supports various payment methods, including credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and bank transfers. We’ve also developed a marketplace where users can trade Splints, making the investment process even more dynamic. 

What began with whisky casks has now expanded into over 13 different categories, including wine, watches, LEGO, handbags, cars, diamonds, trading cards, sports memorabilia, historical books, and more. Each category represents a new opportunity for our community to diversify and grow their investments. 

The Road Ahead 

Our journey from a small group of friends investing in whisky casks to creating Splint Invest has been incredible. But it’s just the beginning. We’re continually expanding our offerings and improving our platform to ensure that everyone, regardless of their financial background, can participate in the world of luxury investments.
