The Macallan Red Collection features six single malts with very high age statements. The youngest is 40 years old, and the oldest one is 78 years old. According to the Macallan’s website, the origin of the name is coming from the founder of the distillery: “Reid is a surname of Scottish origin, meaning “red”. This surname is derived from a nickname, "the Red",&nbsp;a nickname usually given on account of a person’s ruddy face or the sanguine red complexion of their hair. Our founder, Alexander Reid carried this colour with him in his name from the very beginning of The Macallan”.

The current average price per bottle is over 120,000 €, according to Wine-Searcher. The issue price per bottle was 70,000 € two years earlier, and the price has thus already risen by over 70 % within this short period.
