Description

"Denis Flageollet is one of the best living watchmakers with a true vision. We are talking here about a very niche brand that has a production of roughly 300 watches a year. Quality standards are from the highest in the industry. Production is a third of F.P Journe (1000 watches/year) and the brand cannot supply the demand they are facing. The higher demand than supply implies a raise of prices on the secondary market and represents a good potential for investment." - Samy Lachhab, Expert at WatchBox

Why De Bethune?

Historical Prestige
De Bethune is a brand that represents the union of watchmaking tradition with contemporary innovation. It was founded in 2002 in L'Auberson, a small village in the Jura Mountains, on the border between Switzerland and France. The founders of De Bethune are David Zanetta, an Italian collector and dealer of art and antique watches, and Denis Flageollet, a fourth-generation watchmaker from France. The history of De Bethune begins with the vision of these two men, who met while working at Techniques Horlogères Appliquées (THA). There, they specialized in creating complicated and high-end movements for brands such as Breguet, Cartier, Franck Muller, and Bucherer.

Craftsmanship
With De Bethune, Zanetta, and Flageollet sought total independence in watchmaking, allowing them to explore unique horological directions and exercise their freedom to pursue the direction they deemed fit. This is reflected in the striking aesthetics of their watches, which often diverge from the language of classic watch design to which we are accustomed.
Over the years, De Bethune has been recognized for its technical innovations in balance architecture and its well-established reputation for innovation in materials science. The brand has celebrated its 20th anniversary, solidifying its position as one of the early movements of the crop of independent watchmakers that emerged around the turn of the century.

Limited Production
Each De Bethune watch is a limited edition piece, underscoring the exclusivity and craftsmanship focus of the brand. The DB25 Starry Varius is no exception, and its limited production ensures that each watch is a rare and collectible expression of De Bethune's vision.

Why a DB25VTIS3 model?
The story of De Bethune and its DB25 Starry Varius model is a narrative that celebrates the union between traditional watchmaking and modern innovation. De Bethune's aesthetic connection with space and classic science fiction, known for its elegance and aesthetic purity, received a new life with the release of the Starry Varius, which offers a poetic and personalized interpretation of the night sky.
The Starry Varius is a tribute to the majesty of the universe, allowing owners to wear on their wrist a representation of the firmament based on a specific date and location. This customization makes each piece unique and deeply meaningful to its owner.
The model is part of an update of De Bethune's well-known DB25 line, which included a new case size, a new shape of the lugs, and a dial that can be customized to display a personally chosen view of the night sky.
