Description
"Established in 1836 and closed down shortly after WW1 due to barley shortages. 2014 Annandale's first production again after 7 years of intensive market flavour profiling, has already won for 2 years in a row the Best Scottish Single Malt in the world for under 10 years old expression and they have a huge cult following in Asia due to the smoothness and also their branding of their peated and unpeated version which takes on 2 of the most recognisable historical figures in Scottish history - Robbie Burns the famous poet and King Robert the Bruce, who owned the land of Annan. They will be slightly increasing their production soon to keep up with an ever growing demand as their bottles in the market are normally out of stock and hard to find. We can only see this distillery's liquid gold moving up in value and eventually being mentioned in the same sentences as Macallan and the likes of Bunnahabhain." - Jay Sadarangani, Expert at Vintage Acquisitions
Why Annandale Casks?
History
Annandale Distillery, situated in Annan, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, boasts a storied past dating back to 1836 when it was initially established. However, production halted in the early 1900s, leaving it dormant for nearly a century until its revival and renovation in 2007.Under new ownership and management, Annandale Distillery was rejuvenated with a focus on crafting premium single malt Scotch whisky. It upholds traditional methods and skilled craftsmanship, blending age-old techniques with modern technology to achieve a distinctive flavor profile.
The distillery offers two main expressions of single malt Scotch whisky: Man O' Sword and Man O'Words, names inspired by local history and ties to figures like Robert the Bruce and the Balliol family, who left indelible marks on Scottish history. Both expressions pay homage to knights from the Battle of Annan in 1328.
Unique Maturation Process
Annandale Distillery prioritizes the maturation process, allowing their whiskies to age in various types of casks such as ex-bourbon, sherry, and wine barrels. This enhances the complexity and depth of the final products, enriching their overall flavor profile. It's worth noting that whisky production is a slow endeavor, and Annandale Distillery typically releases their whiskies in limited quantities, sparking interest among enthusiasts due to their scarcity. Man O' Sword is a heavily peated whisky known for its smoky and robust flavor profile, crafted using Scottish barley malted with peat to impart a distinctive smokiness. Conversely, Man O' Words is an unpeated whisky that accentuates the natural characteristics of malted barley, resulting in a fruitier and lighter flavor profile. Annandale Distillery whisky endeavors to encapsulate the essence of traditional Scotch whisky production while incorporating contemporary elements. Its revival of heritage and commitment to craftsmanship have established it as a notable presence in the Scottish whisky industry.
