Description
The Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40 is crafted from 18 karat Everose gold and features an olive green dial and a ridged bezel. Introduced in 1956, the Day-Date was the first wristwatch to display the full written day of the week. Each Rolex dial is created in-house and almost entirely by hand to ensure perfection. A distinguishing feature of Rolex watches is the use of gold for the hour markers, which prevents tarnishing.
Originally, the ridges on the Rolex bezel served a practical purpose, as they were used to screw the bezel onto the middle case to ensure the watch's water resistance. Over time, the ridges became an aesthetic feature and a defining element of the Rolex brand. Today, the ridged bezel is a distinguishing characteristic of the Day-Date 40, which is made of gold.
To preserve the beauty of their rose gold watches, Rolex has developed an exclusive 18 karat gold alloy called Everose gold, which is produced in their own foundry. Everose gold was introduced in 2005 and is used in all Rolex models that feature rose gold.
