Why Invest in Jordi Ribes Art?
Born in 1972 in Spain, Jordi Ribes is an artist based in Barcelona. His work is known for blurring the lines between digital and pictorial expression. He achieves this ambiguity through the unconventional use of oil paint, which, stripped of its usual malleability, produces a polished and indistinct effect, combined with the adoption of electric and artificial colors. The effect serves to fuel the narrative of a fantasy world. This universe features figures filled with references, giving rise to a play of contrasts between the innocent and the perverse, the familiar and the unknown, the real and the fictitious. "I love the ambiguity, the multiplicity of readings," says the artist about the reasons for representing the images in this particular way.

Technique
Ribes digitally sketches his works and then transfers them to canvas using oil paints. His paintings follow a traditional technique but have a completely contemporary finish. His recognizable vertical or horizontal brushstrokes provide a slightly blurred effect, while the almost fluorescent colors evoke the digital realm.

Traditional Technique with a Contemporary Touch
The artist selects objects, beings, and subjects that allow him to enhance this particular pictorial technique. Trunks, grass, hair, curtains, and tunics lend themselves to this play of light and shadow that conveys a certain intrigue. The figures have no faces or fingers, but they convey humanity through the positioning of their bodies or their surroundings. The characters are often in jungles, forests, rivers, often accompanied by some baffling object. It's as if the atmosphere of Twin Peaks had been transferred to a natural environment. There is something dark and yet attractive about these scenarios, which are a space for play, mystery, and imagination. Occasionally, we encounter interior scenes where the curtains allow the room to become enigmatic.

Influences
Beyond all these references, one of Ribes' main influences can be found in cinema. When we look at his paintings, we can easily imagine more complete scenes where these characters undergo transformative experiences. Through decontextualized pieces and figures as well as hidden objects or landscapes, the artist challenges us to see beyond the painting, beyond the limit, and discover where our intuition leads us.
The artists who influence Ribes include photographer Jeff Wall for his detailed and cinematic images, Neo Rauch, and David Hockney for their graphic style.

Jordi Ribes has participated in 23 group exhibitions in the last 10 years, has 5 awards and was present at 14 art fairs.
