Description
Born in 1965, Damien Hirst is praised for launching the YBA movement (Young British Artists). In the late 1980s, he was studying at Goldmiths College. Hirst curated his first exhibition in 1988 entitled Freeze. This exhibition would define the face of British contemporary art as we know it, with artists such as Sarah Lucas, Gary Hume, and Hirst himself exhibiting together in a derelict building at Surrey Docks. Visited by prominent artists and dealers of the era, including Sir Nicholas Serota and Charles Saatchi, the exhibition won critical acclaim and launched the careers of many of the YBAs. It cemented the young Hirst as a household name at the mere age of 23.
Since then, Hirst has dominated the global art scene with his multi-disciplinary practice. Although he is best known for displaying dead animals, such as sharks, zebras, and cows, in formaldehyde tanks, the artist has worked in various mediums. From cigarette butts behind glass cabinets to diamond-encrusted skulls, he has experimented with diverse materials, techniques, and subjects.
H6-5 Truth is an art print from Damien Hirst's 2015 series "The Aspects". The pattern comprises a range of butterfly wings arranged in a kaleidoscopic shape, featuring a mix of blues to create a symmetrical and dynamic visual. The artwork has a captivating and stimulating aesthetic that is both captivating and mesmerizing.
The Aspects series from Damien Hirst indicates his fascination with butterflies, which are used to create beautiful patterns in each print. Hirst views the butterfly as a symbol of universal attraction and joy. When someone once commented that butterflies are beautiful but have disgusting hairy bodies, Hirst only chose to display the stunning wings in H6-5 Truth. The prints in The Aspects series are reminiscent of stained glass windows and mandalas, symbols of the human soul and resurrection. The titles of the prints also contain common virtues found in a range of religions, which reflects Hirst's interest in spirituality and the human psyche.
