Description
Petrus is a renowned wine that is known by many but experienced by only a select few. It is a timeless wine that is recognized for its perfect harmony, intricate flavors, and ability to age gracefully. Chateau Petrus places great importance on achieving low yields, exemplifying their commitment to quality. In 2002, they produced a mere 1,700 cases, a significantly smaller quantity compared to the average production of 4,000 cases. Jean-Pierre Moueix is acknowledged for establishing the esteemed reputation of Bordeaux's Right Bank wines and building a family wine empire that encompasses Petrus, Chateau La Fleur-Petrus, Latour a Pomerol, Magdelaine, and Trotanoy.
Before its current success, Petrus was under the ownership of the Arnaud family for almost two centuries. Starting from 1925, Madame Loubat began acquiring portions of the estate, eventually becoming the sole owner after World War II. During the early years of Chateau Petrus, Loubat formed a partnership with Jean-Pierre Moueix, a prosperous wine merchant.
After Madame Loubat's passing in 1961, her family decided to sell their remaining shares to Moueix, making him the exclusive proprietor of this esteemed property. Presently, following the passing of Jean-Pierre, the estate is managed by his son Jean-Francois, while his brother Christian oversees the vineyard, winemaking, marketing, and distribution of the wines.
