Description

Annandale Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located in Annan, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The distillery has a rich history that dates back to 1836 when it was first established. However, it ceased production in the early 1900s and remained closed for nearly a century until it was revived and refurbished in 2007.

Under new ownership and management, the Annandale Distillery was brought back to life with the goal of producing high-quality single malt Scotch whisky. The distillery prides itself on traditional production methods and craftsmanship, combining old-fashioned techniques with modern equipment to create a unique and distinct flavor profile.

Annandale Distillery produces two core expressions of single malt Scotch whisky: Man O' Sword and Man O'Words. These names are inspired by the local history and connections to Robert the Bruce and the Balliol family, who played significant roles in Scottish history. Both expressions are named after knights in the Battle of Annan in 1328.

Man O' Sword is a heavily peated whisky, offering a smoky and robust flavor profile. It is crafted using Scottish barley malted with peat, which imparts a distinct smokiness to the spirit. Man O' Words, on the other hand, is an unpeated whisky that focuses on showcasing the natural characteristics of the malted barley. It is often described as having a fruitier and lighter flavor profile.

Annandale Distillery pays great attention to the maturation process, allowing the whiskies to age in a variety of cask types, including ex-bourbon, sherry, and wine casks. This adds depth and complexity to the final products, contributing to the overall flavor profile.

It's important to note that whisky production is a slow process, and the whiskies from Annandale Distillery are typically released in limited quantities. As a result, they may not be widely available, and their releases often generate interest among whisky enthusiasts.

Overall, Annandale Distillery whisky aims to capture the essence of traditional Scotch whisky production while incorporating a modern touch. Its revived heritage and dedication to craftsmanship have contributed to its reputation as a noteworthy distillery in the Scottish whisky industry.
