Why investing in LEGO Harry Potter Sets?
The LEGO Harry Potter theme is a popular line of LEGO sets based on the Harry Potter books and movies. It was first introduced in 2001 and has since gone through various releases and re-releases, becoming a favorite among both LEGO and Harry Potter fans. Here are some key points about the LEGO Harry Potter theme:
History and Evolution
Initial Release (2001-2007:
The first wave of LEGO Harry Potter sets was released in 2001, coinciding with the release of the first Harry Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone."
Early sets focused on key scenes and locations from the movies, such as Hogwarts Castle, Diagon Alley, and the Hogwarts Express.
The theme was initially discontinued in 2007 but left a lasting impression on fans and collectors (Brick Bucks).
Revival and Modern Era (2010-Present:
The theme was revived in 2010 with updated designs and new sets, including detailed minifigures and intricate builds.
In 2018, LEGO introduced a new series of sets to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the first book. These included more detailed and larger builds, such as the Great Hall, the Whomping Willow, and Hagrid's Hut.
The revival also introduced sets based on the "Fantastic Beasts" series, expanding the wizarding world theme (Brick Bucks).
Collectibility and Investment
Value Appreciation: Many LEGO Harry Potter sets have seen significant appreciation in value after retirement. Collectors often seek out sets for their detailed designs, nostalgic value, and potential for investment returns.
Rarity and Demand: Sets like the original Diagon Alley and certain exclusive minifigures have become highly sought after on the secondary market, sometimes fetching prices well above their original retail value.

The set also includes a buildable minifigure display stand featuring Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Salazar Slytherin, and Rowena Ravenclaw. The design of Hogwarts Castle was executed by LEGO designers Justin Ramsden and Joel Baker.
LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Express Collector's Edition
The LEGO 76405 Hogwarts Express Collectors' Edition is an exclusive Harry Potter set released in 2022, consisting of 5,129 pieces and featuring 20 minifigures. The Hogwarts Express train model is at a 1:32 scale. The passenger car features 3 compartments, each representing classic scenes: Harry, Ron, and Hermione meeting in the first movie; Professor Lupin saving Harry from the Dementor in the third movie; and Luna rescuing Harry from Draco's spell in the sixth movie. The model also includes Platform 9¾ at King’s Cross Station.
The top of the engine has a lever that, when turned, creates the rocking motion characteristic of a steam train. Designed by LEGO designer Marcos Bessa, the Hogwarts Express Collectors' Edition is anticipated to retire soon from most LEGO retail markets and regional LEGO.com online stores.
