We Are Testing a Simpler Investment Target Approach
At Splint Invest, we continuously test ways to make alternative investing more transparent, intuitive, and easier to understand, especially for users who are newer to asset classes like art, collectibles, wine, watches, and trading cards.
Over the next 2 weeks, we will test a new way of communicating investment targets and exit strategies on selected assets in the app.
What Changes?
Until now, we typically showed:
- An investment horizon (e.g. 3–5 years)
- Multiple return scenarios (conservative, realistic, aggressive)
- Annualised returns (% p.a.)
While this approach offered more depth, we noticed that many users found it difficult to compare opportunities or correctly interpret annualised returns.
The new approach is intentionally simpler.
Instead of multiple scenarios, we now focus on:
- One target net ROI
- One maximum holding period
- One clear exit strategy
Example
Instead of showing:
- Conservative: 8% p.a.
- Realistic: 14% p.a.
- Aggressive: 22% p.a.
We may now communicate:
- Target net ROI: +60%
- Maximum holding period: 5 years
Combined with a simple explanation of how exits are managed.
How the Exit Logic Works
The updated logic is straightforward:
- We aim to exit an asset once the target return is achieved
- If the target is not reached, we aim to sell the asset at the best achievable market price at the end of the maximum holding period
- If attractive offers below the target are received during the holding period, co-owners may be asked to vote on a potential exit
We believe this better reflects how alternative assets are managed in reality:
disciplined, opportunity-driven, and market-dependent.
Why We Are Testing This
Our goal is not to “simplify away” important information.
The goal is to make investment opportunities:
- easier to understand
- easier to compare
- more transparent
- more actionable
Especially for passive investors, we believe that:
“Target return + maximum holding period”
may be more intuitive than multiple annualised scenarios.
But instead of assuming, we want to test it together with our community.
What Happens Next?
The new format will be tested for 2 weeks on selected assets.
After the test period, we will ask users for feedback through a short survey to better understand:
- whether the new approach was noticed
- whether it improved understanding
- whether users prefer it over the previous model
- and what could still be improved
As always, your feedback helps shape the future of Splint Invest.
We are looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
